About this route
From the top station the route drops onto the Glacier du Géant by way of an arête that is fixed with a rope for most of the season. The skiing itself is rarely steep — what makes the day is its length, its altitude and the fact that it crosses a working glacier from end to end.
The standard line runs under the Aiguille du Midi and out onto the Mer de Glace, finishing either at the Montenvers railway or, when the snow reaches that far, on the valley floor at Chamonix. Conditions decide which.
